2 Things You Should Do Before Selling Your Junk Car

Posted on: 9 October 2020

If you have an old junk car sitting in your garage or in your yard, you may decide that it is time to get rid of it. Because you would like to make some money off of it, you may have decided to sell it to a scrap yard or other business that buys junkers. Before you sell the car, however, there are a couple of things you will need to do first to get it ready for selling.

1.  Make Sure That All of the Paperwork Is in Order

The first necessary task that you will need to perform before selling your junk car is to ensure that all of the paperwork for the vehicle is in order. The business to which you will be selling the car will need proof that the vehicle belongs to you, even if it no longer runs and has been sitting for years.

If you still have the title to the car, this should suffice as proof of your ownership. However, if you are unable to find it, you will need to go to your local courthouse to get a copy.

If you are still unable to obtain the title, you may need to register for either a new one or a junk title. Call the courthouse to find out what you will need for either of these documents

2.  Clean Out the Car Both Inside and Out

Once you have the documentation that you need, the next thing you should do is to clean out the car. This does not mean to literally clean the car, however.

This task involves making sure that you remove any personal items that you do not want to lose. Also, if there are any parts that are still good and that you may be able to sell individually to make money, you may be able to remove these beforehand. However, make sure you speak to the buyer to ensure that the parts are not included in the price.

Making sure that you have the proper paperwork and that the car is ready to sell can help make the process go more smoothly so that you can get money faster. Contact the business through which you plan to get money for your junk car to find out if there is anything else you need to do before you take the vehicle to them to sell.
